The highly anticipated Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake, first teased in September 2021, remains shrouded in uncertainty. Recent claims suggest the project may have been indefinitely halted, dashing the hopes of many fans. This disheartening news comes from Alex Smith, former head of Bend Studio and a veteran of the Syphon Filter series.

Smith, via his X account, alleges that development on the SW: KotOR Remake has ceased completely, contradicting Saber Interactive’s 2024 statement that development was ongoing. He further claims that some team members have been reassigned, while others have unfortunately been laid off. Should this prove accurate, it would represent a devastating blow to those eagerly awaiting this iconic RPG’s remake.

It's important to note Smith’s track record includes both accurate and inaccurate predictions. While he correctly foreshadowed a Housemarque game announcement, his predictions regarding Death Stranding 2 and Ghost of Tsushima release dates proved incorrect. Therefore, his latest statement should be approached with cautious optimism.
