RGG's "Stranger Than Heaven" Project Revealed

by Brooklyn Nov 04,2025

Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio unveiled a captivating new trailer for their alternate history action game during Summer Game Fest, revealing additional details alongside lingering mysteries. Formerly known as Project Century, the title now bears its official name: Stranger Than Heaven.

Initially introduced at The Game Awards in December under its codename Project Century, Stranger Than Heaven comes from the creators of Yakuza. While maintaining the series' signature combat style, the game introduces significant upgrades - sleeker interfaces, heightened brutality, and morally consequential choices like "Show Mercy" or "Show No Mercy" previously unseen in the franchise.

The latest trailer clarifies some aspects while deepening the intrigue. Curiously, while the first preview depicted 1915 Japan, this version jumps to 1943. The temporal shift prompts speculation - is this a time-travel narrative or complex chronological storytelling? Location also remains ambiguous, with possible settings ranging from familiar districts like Sotenbori (suggested by bridge imagery) to entirely new locales.

Both trailers showcase striking cultural juxtapositions, blending traditional Japanese elements with classic Americana across different eras. While clearly set in Japan, the exact nature of its alternate history continues to elude explanation. Fan theories abound and will undoubtedly multiply following this latest reveal.

The trailer introduces potential protagonist Mako Daito, distinguished by striking blue eyes and cryptic dialogue hinting at supernatural qualities. Adding to the intrigue, previous teases suggested an unexpected appearance by Snoop Dogg - promising a particularly eclectic cast.
