The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge Is Here, And It's Super Thin

by Allison May 13,2025

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S25 Edge, its latest flagship smartphone, at the May Unpacked event. This new model echoes the design of the earlier 2025 Galaxy S25 but introduces a notably slimmer profile, aptly named the "Edge."

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge closely mirrors the specs of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, including the powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and a high-resolution 200MP camera. However, the standout feature is its chassis, which has been impressively slimmed down to just 5.8mm, compared to the 8.2mm thickness of the Galaxy S25 Ultra. This thinner design also results in a lighter weight of only 163g.

Despite its larger size, the Galaxy S25 Edge retains the 6.7-inch AMOLED 2X display found in the standard Galaxy S25, even though it shares nearly identical specifications with the slightly larger 6.9-inch display of the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

Given its slim and expansive build, durability becomes a significant concern. Samsung addresses this by upgrading to Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, which is touted to be more robust than the Gorilla Glass Armor 2 used in the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The primary concern isn't just about surviving drops but also withstanding the pressure when accidentally sat on in a pocket. This raises questions about potential bending issues, reminiscent of past "bendgate" controversies.

The Galaxy S25 Edge continues to offer the suite of "Mobile AI" tools that were introduced with the Samsung Galaxy S24 in the previous year and enhanced throughout 2025. The Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset enables substantial local AI processing, enhancing privacy by reducing reliance on cloud services. Nonetheless, many AI applications still depend on cloud computing. Samsung has included innovative features such as notification and news article summarization for quick insights.

Preorders for the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge start today, with pricing set at $1,099 for the 256GB model and $1,219 for the 512GB version. The phone is available in three color options: Titanium Silver, Titanium Jet Black, and Titanium Icyblue.

Samsung emphasizes the durability of this sleek device, and users can only hope that the company's claims hold true in real-world usage.
