Severance Season 3 Officially Renewed by Apple

by Eric Mar 22,2025

Apple TV+’s critically acclaimed psychological thriller, Severance, has been officially renewed for a third season. Ben Stiller and Dan Erickson’s creation, already a massive hit for the streaming service, saw its second season become the most-watched series in Apple TV+ history. IGN’s review of Severance Season 2 offers a detailed look at the season's critical reception.

“Making Severance has been one of the most creatively exciting experiences I’ve ever been a part of,” said Stiller. He jokingly added, “While I have no memory of this, I’m told making Season 3 will be equally enjoyable, though any recollection of these future events will be forever and irrevocably wiped from my memory as well.”

Adam Scott, star and executive producer, echoed Stiller’s enthusiasm: “I couldn’t be more excited to get back to work with Ben, Dan, the incredible cast and crew, Apple and the whole Severance team. Oh hey also - not a huge deal - but if you see my innie, please don’t mention any of this to him. Thanks.”

Apple’s official synopsis reads:

In Severance, Mark Scout (Scott) leads a team at Lumon Industries, whose employees have undergone a severance procedure that surgically divides their memories between their work and personal lives. This daring experiment in ‘work-life balance’ is called into question as Mark finds himself at the center of an unraveling mystery that will force him to confront the true nature of his work… and of himself.

Season 2 saw Mark and his colleagues grappling with the dire consequences of tampering with the severance barrier, plunging them deeper into a world of unsettling revelations. Season 2 also introduced new series regulars Sarah Snook and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson.

While a release date for Season 3 remains unannounced, Stiller recently appeared on Jason and Travis Kelce’s New Heights podcast, assuring fans that the wait won't be as lengthy as the three-year gap between Seasons 1 and 2.

“No, the plan is not to [wait three years],” Stiller stated. “Definitely not. Hopefully we’ll be announcing what the plan is very soon. That will not be that!” He attributed the delay between seasons to the writers’ and actors’ strike and the extensive production process of Season 2, noting, “I think we shot for 186 days on Season 2. There was a lot of shooting and editing, and editing takes a while.”
