Silent Hill f The First In Konami's Horror Series to Get an 18+ Rating In Japan

by Andrew Mar 18,2025

Silent Hill f makes history as the first game in the franchise to receive an 18+ rating in Japan. The Japanese-language reveal trailer, unveiled recently, confirmed mature ratings across various regions: Mature in the U.S., PEGI 18 in Europe, and CERO:Z in Japan. While the rating is subject to change as development continues, it marks a significant departure from previous entries. Silent Hill, Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill 3, and Silent Hill: The Room all received CERO:C ratings (15+ in Japan), with other international titles typically receiving CERO:C or CERO:D (17+) ratings. Even the Silent Hill 2 Remake, despite its mature Western ratings, only received a CERO:C rating in Japan.

PlayKonami's recent Silent Hill Transmission focused entirely on Silent Hill f, the first mainline entry in thirteen years. Announced in 2022, the game transports players to 1960s Japan, where they follow Shimizu Hinako, a teenager grappling with societal pressures. The narrative is penned by Ryukishi07, creator of the acclaimed When They Cry visual novel series.

The reveal trailer showcases Hinako's distress, depicting her bloodied and torn uniform. While gameplay was limited, the trailer offered glimpses into the game's setting, monster designs, and a potentially blood-red flower-filled Otherworld. Currently, there's no release date for Silent Hill f, and no further updates were provided regarding No Code's Silent Hill Townfall.
