"Spider-Man: Brand New Day Precedes Avengers: Doomsday, Fans Expect Grounded Tale"

by Ryan May 24,2025

Disney's recent announcement of significant delays for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars has left fans eagerly awaiting the return of Earth's mightiest heroes on the big screen. Avengers: Doomsday is now slated for release on December 18, 2026, a full seven months later than originally planned, while Secret Wars will follow on December 17, 2027. Amidst these shifts, the spotlight has also turned to Spider-Man, with Tom Holland's Peter Parker set to swing back into action in Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31, 2026. This film will continue Peter's journey post the dramatic events of No Way Home, where his identity was wiped from public memory.

Before Disney's delay, Spider-Man: Brand New Day was positioned to follow Avengers: Doomsday, serving as an intriguing interlude between the two Avengers films. There were rumors that Disney and Sony might explore more multiversal adventures, fitting into the current trends of the MCU. However, with Spider-Man: Brand New Day now scheduled to release before either Avengers movie, fans are hopeful this will allow the film to breathe and perhaps deliver a more street-level, grounded narrative within the Marvel universe.

Consider the previous scenario: Avengers: Doomsday likely would have ended on a cliffhanger similar to Avengers: Infinity War, compelling audiences to return for the resolution in Secret Wars. Spider-Man, a key member of the Avengers, would either need to be involved in these events, or his absence would require explanation. With Brand New Day now set to premiere first, it can either follow these events, be set prior to them, or take a completely separate path, free from the overarching MCU stakes.

"That completely changes things for Spider-Man 4," a fan noted on Reddit, highlighting the shift in narrative framing. "At least in the way we thought it NEEDED to be in between both films timeline-wise. Now it sounds like it won't be."

Another fan speculated, "If Spider-Man: Brand New Day isn't [also] delayed, I think that basically would confirm it isn't a multiverse battle world movie," referencing the setting of the original Secret Wars comic storyline where heroes are transported to a battle world.

Spider-Man enthusiasts are thrilled at the prospect of seeing Peter Parker return to his roots, swinging through the streets of New York rather than being swept up in cosmic battles with the Avengers. For many, Disney's delay is seen as a positive development.

"This is the best Spider-Man 4 news we've gotten," one fan expressed.

"With [Brand New Day] coming before Doomsday, this fully allows a grounded story, which lines up with the rumors and casting lately," another fan added, alluding to recent online buzz about villains cast for a more traditional, New York-based narrative.

Earlier this month, Liza Colón-Zayas, known for her role as Tina Marrero on FX's The Bear, was reportedly cast in Brand New Day. Speculation suggests she might portray the mother of Miles Morales, the alternate Spider-Man who has gained popularity through Sony's Spider-Verse animated series and is expected to make a live-action appearance soon.

In addition to the Avengers and Spider-Man delays, Disney also removed an untitled Marvel project from its February 13, 2026, release slot. Fans suspect this was a placeholder for the long-awaited Blade reboot starring Mahershala Ali, which now appears to be missing from the MCU's upcoming saga altogether, if it ever comes to fruition.

Other changes include shifting the release dates of November 6, 2026, and November 5, 2027, to "Untitled Disney" films. If these are not Marvel-related, the MCU's movie schedule will be relatively light in the coming years.

Looking ahead to 2025, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is set to hit theaters in July, while the TV series Ironheart and Wonder-Man are slated for debut on Disney+. Next year's Disney+ lineup includes the second season of Daredevil: Born Again (expected in the spring), a Punisher one-off special, and Vision Quest, the Paul Bettany-led series that has now quietly started filming.
