Squid Game Creator Loses Teeth Over Season 3 Stress

by Noah Oct 02,2025

Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk endured immense challenges to deliver one of television's most gripping dystopian dramas – including sacrificing his own teeth. Yes, you read correctly. Hwang recently disclosed that he lost additional teeth while producing Season 3.

"I thought everything would be fine, but this time I needed two more extractions," the creator confessed to Entertainment Weekly. "About eight teeth came out during Season 1, now two more are gone, and I haven't gotten replacements yet. I'm still waiting."

Initial reports suggested Hwang lost six teeth early in production, but November 2024 revelations confirmed the count reached approximately eight or nine. Interestingly, the show's final season – which Hwang confirms concludes the series – proved slightly less stressful, though still costly for the creator's dental health.

"Having established my creative universe already made Seasons 2 and 3 somewhat easier than Season 1," Hwang explained to EW. "However, we faced the challenge of writing and filming Seasons 2 and 3 consecutively. Essentially we produced one continuous season while racing to deliver Season 3 promptly. The sheer scale required nearly a year of shooting, creating tremendous physical strain."

Recently, Hwang shared intriguing thoughts about potential Squid Game spin-offs during his Gotham Awards red carpet interview with Indiewire. "Any spin-off would bridge Seasons 1 and 2's three-year timeline gap," he revealed. "I want to explore what happened during those missing years."

Squid Game Season 3 arrives on Netflix June 27, 2025.
