Starting Tips for Dragon Quest III: HD-2D Remake

For fans of classic JRPGs, Dragon Quest III: HD-2D Remake is a nostalgic trip back to the series' roots. However, its old-school challenge requires strategic planning. Here are some tips to conquer Baramos:

Master the Personality Test

At the game's start, you'll answer questions from "She Who Watches Over All." These determine your hero's personality and significantly impact stat growth. While you can alter personality later with specific accessories, restarting for your preferred traits is simpler. "Vamp," exclusive to female heroes, offers optimal stat boosts.

Customize Your Party

In Aliahan, bypass Patty's pre-set party. On the second floor, speak to the counter attendant to create a custom team with classes Patty omits. This lets you allocate stats and influence personalities, creating superior party members. A Priest is essential for healing.

Acquire Essential Weapons

Early-game equipment is costly, so powerful weapons are crucial. Find the Boomerang (Dreamer's Tower, third floor chest) and the Thorn Whip (Aliahan well, requires two Mini Medals from Morgan Minimann). These multi-target weapons are ideal for the Hero and a strong character like a Warrior or Martial Artist. Four Mini Medals are readily available in the opening hours.

Direct Party Actions

Utilize the Tactics menu's "Follow Orders" setting. This gives you direct control over party members' actions during combat, a significant advantage in intense battles.

Stock Up on Chimaera Wings

Early enemies can inflict heavy damage. Before unlocking the Zoom spell (around Hero level 8), keep Chimaera Wings for quick travel to previously visited locations, including dungeons. At 25 gold each, they prevent lengthy retreats and save weakened party members.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is available on PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
