A viral video cleverly transforms Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom into a Super Mario Galaxy experience. Released in May 2023, Tears of the Kingdom, the sequel to 2017's Breath of the Wild, is the latest installment in the acclaimed Zelda series. Often compared to other Nintendo hits like Pokémon Scarlet and Violet and various Super Mario titles, this fan-made video highlights unexpected similarities.
Reddit user Ultrababouin's "Super Zelda Galaxy" montage recreates iconic Super Mario Galaxy moments within Tears of the Kingdom. The edit, notably including a recreation of the opening level, evokes nostalgia for the 2007 Wii classic.
Posted on the Hyrule Engineering subreddit—a community dedicated to Tears of the Kingdom in-game creations—the nearly month-long project was a June design contest entry. Ultrababouin, a prolific builder previously recognized as "Engineer of the Month" (December and February), has shared other impressive builds, including a Tears of the Kingdom version of the Breath of the Wild's Master Cycle Zero.
The Master Cycle Zero, a horse-shaped vehicle from Breath of the Wild, is absent in Tears of the Kingdom. However, the new game's innovative build system lets players create vehicles and contraptions. This has led to incredible feats, such as the aircraft carrier with a functional bomber built by Hyrule Engineering member ryt1314059.
The next Zelda game, Echoes of Wisdom, launches September 26th. A significant departure, it features Princess Zelda as the protagonist, rather than the usual Link.
