Choosing the best party members for *Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition* can be daunting due to the game's vast array of characters and classes. Our guide highlights the top five party members and explains why they are essential to your team.
Elma, the first character you can recruit, is far from weak. Her class, Full Metal Jaguar, is one of the best in *Xenoblade X*, and her AI utilizes it effectively in various scenarios. Key skills like Ghostwalker, which creates a decoy, and Ghost Factory, which enhances party evasion, should be prioritized for leveling. Although Elma's position-based attacks may lead to some downtime as she repositions, her versatility as a hybrid tank, support, and offensive unit is invaluable. With self-buffs that boost her critical hit rate and the ability to instantly gain 1,000 TP, Elma significantly enhances your party's performance, especially since she's mandatory for most story missions.
Irina stands out as the game's premier supporter, surpassing even dedicated support heroes like Hope. She excels in healing, debuff removal, and boosting party evasion, which complements Elma's Ghost Factory. Irina also generates TP for the party, although it consumes her own. Skills like Energy Source and Last Stand are crucial for maintaining party TP. While Irina isn't suited for solo combat or taking down Tyrants, her support capabilities are vital. Pair her with one or two strong attackers to prevent prolonged battles.
For those not opting for the Duelist class, Nagi is an excellent addition to your team. As one of the few Duelists in *Xenoblade X*, he delivers high damage and is self-sufficient in combat, effective at both close and long range, with access to area-of-effect abilities. His signature move, Blossom Dance, is exceptionally powerful, ignoring enemy resistances and capable of defeating tough foes quickly. To maximize Nagi's potential, include a supporter or someone who can debuff enemies in your party, like Irina, or use Mastermind skills for debuffing.
Despite being a Psycorruptor, Mia embodies the versatility of a Drifter. She can apply debuffs, reduce debuff resistance, and deal significant damage with attacks like Beam Barrage and Myopic Screen, which can also cause blackout. Her attacks become more potent when an aura is active, and she can even topple enemies. However, Mia lacks self-defense and healing capabilities, so it's crucial to include a party member who can cover these roles.
H.B. serves as an enhanced version of Lin, ideal for when you need additional defense. As a Shield Trooper+, he excels at drawing enemy attention, which is particularly beneficial if your party includes aggressive members like Elma or Nagi. H.B. can generate TP with his taunt attack, increase debuff resistance, boost ranged attack power, topple enemies, inflict debuffs, and create a robust shield. If you struggle with survival outside the main storyline, completing H.B.'s affinity mission to recruit him is highly recommended.
