Unlocking Mistria's Deep Woods

Since *Fields of Mistria* entered Steam Early Access, the Deep Woods has been tantalizingly marked on the town map, yet remained inaccessible—until the March 2025 update. This guide reveals how to unlock this new area and locate Caldarus.

Unlocking the Deep Woods in *Fields of Mistria*

The Deep Woods unlock hinges on breaking the Fire Seal and utilizing the newly acquired Dragon’s Breath spell to clear the obstructing vines. This requires a specific offering to the Priestess’s Fire Seal altar (Floor 60 of the mines): a Faceted Rock Gem, a Rockroot, an Emerald, and a Sealing Scroll. The first three are found between floors 50 and 59. Obtaining the scroll requires a quest involving Juniper and Balor.

To get the Sealing Scroll from Balor, leave these items by his wagon:

• 10 Silver Ingots
• 10 Rubies
• 10 Sapphires
• 10 Emeralds

After fulfilling these requirements, speak with Balor; the scroll will arrive the next day. Once the offering is complete, expect a surprising turn of events. The Priestess's words are less celebratory than expected, and you'll find yourself in peril, leading to a dramatic encounter with Caldarus.

He appears in human form, retreating to his temple in the Deep Woods to recover. He then grants you the Dragon’s Breath spell, essential for burning away the vines blocking the Deep Woods entrance and other previously inaccessible areas. Equip it from the pause menu and use it at the entrance to permanently unlock the area.

Locating Caldarus

Following the Fire Seal's breaking, Caldarus resides within his temple in the Deep Woods, north of the Eastern Road. You'll need Dragon's Breath to access the area. His location is clearly marked on your map. He's in the northeast corner of the Deep Woods.

To reach him, enter the Deep Woods, chop down the obstructing stump with your axe, and head north to his temple.

Once unlocked, use the Dragon Statue on your farm for convenient (10 Essence) fast travel to the Deep Woods, enabling easy visits to Caldarus. You can still interact with him through his statue.
