"Witcher 3 to Receive Final Patch in 2025 with Console Mods"

by Eleanor Jun 03,2025

The Witcher 3 is set to receive one final patch in 2025, introducing cross-platform mod support for the first time in the game’s history. This update will enable mod integration across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, marking a significant milestone for console gamers who have longed for the same modding capabilities as their PC counterparts.

CD Projekt made the announcement during The Witcher 3’s 10th anniversary celebrations. The upcoming patch will streamline the process of creating, sharing, and enjoying mods, making it easier than ever before. To access these features, players will need a mod.io account linked to their CD Projekt Red profile. While existing modding platforms remain functional, mod.io will be essential for accessing console-based mods.

It’s important to note that while console users can enjoy the vast array of mods available through cross-platform support, creators will still need to use tools like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt REDkit on PC to design them.

This update breathes new life into the decade-old game, which continues to thrive with a dedicated player base. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has now surpassed 60 million copies sold worldwide. This impressive figure encompasses sales of both the base game and the Game of the Year edition but does not include standalone expansion packs. This puts The Witcher 3 tantalizingly close to matching Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which Todd Howard revealed in June 2023 had sold over 60 million copies.

Adam Badowski, joint CEO of CD Projekt, expressed pride in the game’s achievements:

Undoubtedly, the third chapter of Geralt’s journey represents a turning point in our company’s history. Beyond accolades and recognition, The Witcher 3 has delivered countless hours of adventure and emotion to millions of players globally. We’re thrilled to confirm that since its release, the game has sold over 60 million copies, cementing its place among the best-selling video games ever made and fueling our efforts on the upcoming Witcher 4 trilogy.

Currently, 422 out of CD Projekt’s 730 developers are dedicated to Witcher 4, which is slated for release no earlier than 2027.
