The Witcher 4's director clarifies Ciri's in-game model: no changes made. Following the release of a behind-the-scenes video showcasing Ciri, speculation arose regarding alterations to her facial appearance. The video, featuring close-ups at the 2:11 and 5:47 marks, revealed a seemingly different look compared to the cinematic trailer.
This fueled existing online discussions about Ciri's appearance in the game. However, game director Sebastian Kalemba dispelled these rumors, stating that the in-game model remains unchanged. The differences observed are attributed to the raw, unpolished footage shown in the behind-the-scenes video, lacking the cinematic lighting, animation, and camera effects present in the reveal trailer. Kalemba emphasized that such variations are normal during game development.
The Witcher 4, the first in a new trilogy, features Ciri as the protagonist, a decision supported by executive producer Małgorzata Mitręga and Geralt's voice actor, Doug Cockle. They highlight Ciri's rich character arc and the opportunity for players to shape her journey. While acknowledging potential negative reactions to this choice, they maintain that Ciri was always intended to be the lead, emphasizing the depth and potential of her story.
Further exclusive content on The Witcher 4, including a trailer breakdown and an interview discussing the game's development strategy to avoid a repeat of Cyberpunk 2077's launch issues, is also available.
