Xbox Game Pass Ultimate: Stream Games on Consoles Now

by Ellie Apr 17,2025

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members now have an exciting new perk: the ability to stream certain games directly to their Xbox consoles without the need for downloading. This feature was announced today via an Xbox Wire news post, highlighting that Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members can stream games from the Game Pass catalog and select owned games on their Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and Xbox One consoles through cloud streaming.

Previously, this cloud streaming capability was available on smart TVs, PCs, smartphones, and Meta Quest headsets, but this marks the first time it's been extended to Xbox consoles. This development allows users to bypass the often time-consuming process of downloading games and helps conserve valuable hard drive space.

To utilize this feature on an Xbox console, users should navigate to My games & apps > Full library > Owned Games. Games that are available for cloud streaming will feature a cloud badge on their page. To quickly find these games, you can use the filter options: Filter > Ready to play > Cloud gaming. Once you've selected a game, simply choose Play with Cloud Gaming to start streaming. Additionally, you can initiate streaming directly from the Store app after purchasing select cloud-playable games.

Conversely, any game installed on your Xbox console can be streamed to devices with supported web browsers by visiting this link. It's worth noting that while this feature is no longer supported on the Xbox mobile app, it remains accessible on smartphones through the browser link. Xbox is also working on extending this feature to Samsung and Amazon Fire smart TVs, as well as Meta Quest headsets.

Additionally, Xbox announced that starting this month, Xbox and Xbox 360 backward compatible games will also support remote play, further enhancing the flexibility of gaming options for users.

This suite of updates is part of Xbox's broader effort to optimize storage space on its consoles. The Xbox Wire post also introduced a new feature in the console's settings designed to help users manage their hard drive space more efficiently. This feature can be accessed via My Games & Apps > Manage menu, where it will provide recommendations for freeing up space.

Xbox has been actively working to address the growing demand for storage space, driven by increasingly large game install sizes, such as those seen in games like Call of Duty and Baldur's Gate 3. For those needing additional storage even with these updates, we've outlined some of the best storage options for the Xbox Series X and S. These recommendations are particularly useful if you're not looking to invest in the newer Xbox models that come with expanded built-in storage.
