Minnesota Whist, popular in Minnesota and South Dakota, stands out as a no-trump partnership game. The game's objective changes based on whether you're playing a "high bid" or a "low bid". In a high bid, your goal is to win seven or more of the thirteen tricks, whereas in a low bid, you aim to win six or fewer tricks. This simple yet engaging trick-taking game is ideal for honing your card-playing skills, enhancing your strategic thinking, and enjoying quality time with a fun and fast-paced challenge.
Team up with your AI partner to outsmart your opponents and reach your win target, whether it's 13 or seven. As you play, keep an eye on your all-time and session stats to monitor your progress and improvement. Minnesota Whist offers extensive customization options to tailor the game to your preferences:
Personalize your gaming experience further with customizable color themes and card decks, keeping the game visually engaging. Here's a quick overview of the rules:
After dealing the cards evenly among four players, each player bids by choosing a high (black card) or low (red card) bid. Starting to the left of the dealer, bid cards are revealed one by one. If a black card appears first, the round is played 'high', aiming to win as many tricks as possible, with the player to the right of the one who granded leading the first trick. If all bid cards are red, the game is played 'low', aiming to win as few tricks as possible, with the player to the left of the dealer leading the first trick. In each trick, players must follow suit if possible, with the highest card of the led suit winning the trick.
At the end of each round, points are awarded based on the number of tricks collected. In a high bid round, the team who granded earns a point for each trick over six, while failing to reach seven tricks awards the opposing team points per trick over six, depending on the 'set bonus' setting. In a low bid round, teams earn points for each trick under seven.
