Marek Tyminski, CEO of CI Games, confirmed via Twitter (X) that the upcoming Soulslike will officially debut at Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 19. While development has been confirmed for some time, this marks the first opportunity for fans to get an official look at the highly anticipated project.

The announcement was subtly teased last week by veteran games convention host Geoff Keighley. Speculation quickly spread among fans, with many predicting a potential Bloodborne sequel. Within 24 hours, Tyminski clarified that Lords of the Fallen 2 would be the game revealed at Gamescom.

Beyond the game's reveal, the development team shared in their monthly "Lifting the Veil" behind-the-scenes series that a tattoo studio will be present at Gamescom. They drew connections between tattoos and Soulslike games, citing shared themes of endurance, artistry, and dedication.

The upcoming title is a direct sequel to 2023's Lords of the Fallen, which itself served as a soft reboot and follow-up to the identically named 2014 game from CI Games.

## Lords of the Fallen Through the Years

The 2014 Lords of the Fallen is recognized as one of the first non-FromSoftware titles to adopt the Soulsborne formula, contributing to the birth of the Soulslike genre. Despite its ambitious approach, the original game received mixed reviews from players and critics, with many scores falling in the average range.

Fortunately, the reboot proved significantly more successful, surpassing one million copies sold within its first 10 days—an achievement the original did not reach in seven months. Despite early technical challenges, the 2023 release now holds a respectable Metacritic score of 75, with many fans considering it essential for Soulslike enthusiasts.

We rated Lords of the Fallen 82/100. For our full review, click the button below.
