In a surprising turn of events, indie game Schedule I, a co-op crime simulation where players climb the ranks from a small-time dope pusher to a kingpin, has been accused of copyright infringement by Movie Games S.A., the developers behind The Drug Dealer Simulator series. According to a report by the Polish Press Agency on April 3, Movie Games S.A. claims that Schedule I may have infringed on their intellectual property by replicating plot elements, game mechanics, and even the user interface of their Drug Dealer Simulator games. However, no official legal action has been announced yet.

Despite the allegations, the fanbase has rallied behind Schedule I, leading to a significant backlash against Movie Games S.A. Both The Drug Dealer Simulator and its sequel, Drug Dealer Simulator 2, have been hit with a wave of negative reviews on Steam, now labeled as "Overwhelmingly Negative" and "Mostly Negative" respectively. Many of these reviews criticize Movie Games S.A. for what they perceive as bullying tactics against the indie developer and highlight the company's apparent hypocrisy, noting that similar games were released without issue until Schedule I came along.

The fervor surrounding Schedule I is evident in its performance on Steam. Released into Early Access on PC on March 25, the game has garnered "Overwhelmingly Positive" reviews and currently ranks as the 2nd top-selling game on the platform, surpassing well-known titles like inZOI, Monster Hunter Wilds, and the indie game R.E.P.O. SteamDB reports that Schedule I has reached an all-time peak of 459,075 concurrent players.
