Recent Windows 11 Update Disrupts Assassin's Creed Gameplay; Patches Released

Following the rollout of Windows 11 update 24H2, several gamers reported issues launching or playing certain titles, including some Assassin's Creed games. This update, while introducing features like Wi-Fi 7 support and AI Copilot+, inadvertently caused compatibility problems for some Ubisoft games.

Fortunately, Ubisoft has swiftly addressed the issue for two titles: Assassin's Creed Origins and Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Patches are now available via Steam, resolving the launch and gameplay problems. Players should download these updates automatically; however, ensure sufficient storage space (230 MB for Origins and 500 MB for Valhalla).

However, the problem isn't entirely resolved. While Origins and Valhalla are playable again, reports persist regarding Assassin's Creed Odyssey, which remains affected. Other Ubisoft titles, including Star Wars: Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, may also experience lingering performance issues, despite previous hotfixes.

This unforeseen incompatibility highlights a potential oversight in Microsoft's testing process. Issues were initially reported months before the official 24H2 release, suggesting insufficient pre-release quality assurance. This is particularly concerning given Microsoft's push for Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11.

While most games appear unaffected, players anticipating the Windows 11 update 24H2 should proceed with caution, especially if they own Assassin's Creed Odyssey or other potentially vulnerable Ubisoft titles. It's advisable to wait for further patches before upgrading.
