Befriend the Dwarves in Stardew Valley: A Beginner's Guide

by George Jan 18,2025

This guide delves into the enigmatic Dwarf of Stardew Valley, offering insights into befriending this unique character. Unlike other villagers, connecting with the Dwarf requires deciphering a new language and understanding his unique gift preferences.

Updated January 8, 2024: Recent Stardew Valley updates (1.5 and 1.6) have altered NPC friendship mechanics, impacting gift preferences and social interactions. This guide reflects those changes.

Meeting the Dwarf

Dwarf's Boulder Located in the mines, a large boulder (to the right of the first floor entrance) obstructs access to the Dwarf's shop. Destroy it using a copper pickaxe or a bomb to reveal the Dwarf's dwelling.

Learning Dwarvish

Dwarf's Shop Initial interactions are futile; the Dwarf doesn't speak common tongue. To communicate, you must donate all four Dwarf Scrolls to the Museum. Gunther will then reward you with a Dwarvish translation guide, unlocking communication.
