Borderlands 4 is shaping up to deliver groundbreaking endgame content described as "very ambitious." Discover what the developers have planned for post-story gameplay and explore the newly released "Welcome to Kairos" trailer.

Gearbox Software has unveiled exciting details about Borderlands 4's mechanics and lore, with Creative Director Graeme Timmins emphasizing an exceptionally ambitious endgame experience. In a July 7 interview with Game Informer, Timmins shared insights about the game's post-campaign content.
Timmins, who helped develop Borderlands 3's endgame, explained how the team incorporated lessons from previous titles while responding to community expectations. "We've considered the endgame from the beginning, implementing valuable lessons from both Tiny Tina's Wonderlands and Borderlands to deliver the franchise's most refined endgame experience yet," he stated.
Anticipation for Borderlands 4 continues to grow, with fans creating detailed skill planners for playable characters Vex and Rafa months ahead of release. Twitter user Byrd and Maxroll.gg collaborated on this fan project, revealed on July 7.
Timmins responded to acknowledge the community effort while cautioning that gameplay elements remain subject to change. "This tool is impressive! However, all skills may undergo balancing adjustments before launch. The demo versions you've experienced might differ from the final product," he reminded fans.
The second installment of the BEYOND THE BORDERLANDS series, titled "Welcome to Kairos," debuted on July 8. This seven-minute video introduces players to the prison planet Kairos, featuring new factions, their leaders, and the origins of the primary antagonist, the Time Keeper.
As players navigate this oppressive regime, they'll encounter factions including The Outbounders, The Augurs, and The Ripper Queen, each with distinct agendas. Narrative Director Sam Winkler explained their approach to creating the Time Keeper: "We aimed to craft a villain who feels omnipresent yet fresh for the franchise - imposing without becoming tiresome."

Managing Director of Narrative Lin Joyce highlighted the game's expansive world design: "This title represents a pivotal moment in our universe, connecting previous stories while establishing exciting new directions that will reward both veterans and newcomers."
With innovations like seamless loading and enhanced weapon systems, Borderlands 4 aims to elevate the franchise to new heights. The game launches September 12, 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
