"Breath of Fire IV Revived on PC 25 Years Later"

by Zoe Apr 25,2025

Breath of Fire IV has made a triumphant return to PC gaming, 25 years after its initial release. Originally launched on the PlayStation in Japan and North America in 2000, and in Europe the following year, the game saw a PC port in Europe and Japan in 2003. This beloved Capcom role-playing game follows the adventures of Ryu, a man with the unique ability to transform into a dragon, as he joins forces with other warriors to thwart an emperor's plan to destroy the world.

As part of its ongoing Preservation Program, GOG has brought Breath of Fire IV back to life, fully optimized for today's PCs and available DRM-free on their platform. This enhanced version is compatible with Windows 10 and 11, offering both English and Japanese localizations. The game boasts improved graphics thanks to an upgraded DirectX renderer, along with new display options such as Windowed Mode, V-Sync, Anti-Aliasing, and refined gamma correction for enhanced visuals. Additionally, the audio engine has been upgraded, bringing back missing environmental sounds and introducing new configuration options for an immersive experience.
