Capcom has subtly teased Resident Evil 9 in a recent celebratory video. In honor of reaching 10 million players, the Resident Evil 4 development team released a special video on social media on April 25, featuring Ada Wong in a hushed conversation with a notorious villain, followed by a scene where Leon is surrounded by infected wearing party hats, all heading towards a church.
The video then shifts to a rock song, with Dr. Salvador humorously playing his chainsaw as if it were a guitar, and Leon energetically pumping his fist. In the background, a rustic sign reads "Thank you for playing." However, when viewed sideways, the sign's boards form the Roman numeral "IX," which is 9.
While some might dismiss this as a coincidence, horror game insider Dusk Golem has noted that the lower plank on the sign, crucial for forming the numeral, appears only in this specific part of the video, suggesting it was deliberately added. One viewer reacted with surprise, commenting, "I know what you did here," accompanied by a wide-eyed emoji.

Capcom has also confirmed that the next mainline entry in the Resident Evil series, presumably Resident Evil 9, will be directed by Koshi Nakanishi, who previously directed Resident Evil 7. Nakanishi has expressed the challenge of following up Resident Evil 7 but is excited about the new direction, hinting at a substantial project set on an island inspired by Singapore, though this has not been officially confirmed.
