Choosing Your Steed in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2: Pebbles vs. Herring

In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Henry faces the heartwarming yet difficult decision of choosing between two horses: Pebbles and Herring. Both become available later in the game after the prologue's unfortunate events. So, which horse should you choose?

Pebbles: The Familiar Friend

You'll encounter Pebbles at the Semine estate before Lord Semine and Agnes' wedding. She's located in the stables, requiring a purchase to ride her during the "The Jaunt" quest with Jan Semine. However, Pebbles holds sentimental value, having been Henry's companion before the game's events, much like Mutt.

Herring: The Statistically Superior (Initially)

Herring becomes available after completing "For Whom the Bell Tolls." If you haven't acquired another horse, Otto von Bergow provides Herring. Otherwise, you can sell him to Kabat for 300 Groschen. Initially, Herring boasts superior base stats compared to Pebbles.

The Verdict: Pebbles Reigns Supreme

While Herring's initial stats are higher, a crucial element shifts the balance: each horse unlocks a stat boost perk after traveling a specific distance. This perk significantly alters the final stats.

Pebbles, despite her initially lower stats, surpasses Herring after her perk is unlocked at 35 kilometers. This is quicker than Herring's 50-kilometer requirement. Furthermore, Pebbles offers a significant cost advantage, potentially being acquired for free. Her boosted stats are:

  • 217 Stamina
  • 353 Capacity
  • 53 Speed
  • 12 Courage

Ultimately, Pebbles provides a superior combination of reliable performance, decent stats, early acquisition, and a faster stat boost unlock. The sentimental value of her prior companionship with Henry adds to her appeal. For the extensive travel in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Pebbles emerges as the clear winner.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
