Company of Heroes Developer Relic Entertainment Unveils Earth vs. Mars Announcement

by Emily Feb 23,2025

Relic Entertainment, the studio behind Company of Heroes, is branching out with Earth vs. Mars, a smaller-scale, turn-based strategy game launching this Summer on PC via Steam. Players will lead Earth's defense against a Martian invasion by creating unique hybrid creatures using the Splice-O-Tron. Expect unusual combinations like Squirrel-Cows, Human-Rhinos, and Cheetah-Flies! The gameplay draws inspiration from the classic Nintendo DS title, Advance Wars.

The game's narrative centers on a clandestine Martian operation: decades of human and animal abductions to harvest atomic energy. Now, a full-scale invasion is underway, and Earth's resistance, led by a diverse group of commanders, must fight back against technologically superior Martian forces, including saucers, grav-tanks, and elite alien warriors.

Earth vs. Mars offers a robust single-player campaign with over 30 missions, online multiplayer featuring both factions, a VS Mode for AI challenges, and a map editor.

Relic CEO Justin Dowdeswell commented, "We're thrilled to put a Relic spin on the Advance Wars formula, blending our signature style with elements from our earlier games." He further explained a new studio strategy: "Alongside our established RTS titles, we'll be developing smaller, indie-style games to explore new genres, experiment creatively, and increase our release frequency."
