Rebel Wolves studio has unveiled details about their upcoming vampire RPG, highlighting the central theme of duality in their protagonist. Project director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz describes the character as a modern-day Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, a concept largely unexplored in video games, adding a layer of unique surrealism. Tomaszkiewicz believes this fresh approach will resonate with players.
A key element of this duality is the character's periods of ordinary, powerless humanity, creating a stark contrast with their vampiric abilities. This design choice, however, requires careful consideration. Many RPG mechanics are so ingrained in player expectations that their absence could lead to confusion.
Tomaszkiewicz points out the inherent challenge in RPG development: balancing innovation with established conventions. He notes that altering familiar mechanics, even subtly, can spark significant debate among genre fans. The studio cites the mixed reception to Kingdom Come: Deliverance’s schnapps-dependent save system as a prime example of this delicate balance.
The gameplay premiere is slated for Summer 2025.
