James Gunn Hints at Major WB Games Revamp

by Elijah Nov 18,2025

DC Studios co-CEO and Superman director James Gunn hints at ambitious plans for Warner Bros. Games, though fans will need patience before seeing concrete results.

The comic book visionary discussed expanding the DC Universe during his conversation with GamesRadar+. As Gunn, co-CEO Peter Safran, and DC Studios chart a new course for DCU films and series, the director confirms gaming remains integral to their strategy.

"We're seeing preliminary developments across several projects," Gunn revealed. "While smaller DC titles are nearing release, we're also conceptualizing more substantial ventures—one especially promising endeavor demands more development time. Recent leadership shifts at Warner Bros. Games mean we're aligning plans with new decision-makers."

These organizational changes followed WB Games' strategic pivot toward four core franchises: Mortal Kombat, Harry Potter, DC, and Game of Thrones—a restructuring prompted by Rocksteady Studios' Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League underperformance, MultiVersus' commercial struggles, and subsequent closure, plus WB Games president David Haddad's January departure.

The studio's February downsizing saw Wonder Woman's cancellation and closures of Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and WB San Diego. Despite past successes with Batman: Arkham and Injustice series, DC's gaming division faces rebuilding challenges.

Gunn confirmed WB Games' renewed momentum but kept future DC adaptations under wraps. GamesRadar+ notes Superman actor David Corenswet may potentially voice his character in upcoming games.

The DC Studios chiefs previously indicated inaugural DCU titles remain years away, with both executives collaborating closely with NetherRealm (Injustice) and Rocksteady (Batman: Arkham) on narrative alignment across media.

"We review early conceptual designs," Gunn explained. "When studios explore story directions, we provide guidance—suggesting adjustments to synchronize with our broader character plans across films and games."

While WB Games' transformation unfolds gradually, recent focus includes Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, unveiled at gamescom 2025. Despite debates over its character selection, nostalgia for cinematic Batman moments and Arkham-inspired combat mechanics is generating buzz.
