Diablo 4 and Path of Exile 2 Devs Won’t Say Whether They’ll Ban Elon Musk for Account Boosting

Elon Musk's alleged cheating in Diablo 4 and Path of Exile 2 has sparked controversy, with fans questioning the integrity of the games and the developers' response. Screenshots of a private conversation reveal Musk's admission to paying for account boosting, a violation of both games' terms of service.

Account boosting, where players pay others to level up their accounts, is a clear breach of Blizzard Entertainment's and Grinding Gear Games' rules. Despite public outcry and questions regarding the lack of action against Musk, both companies have remained silent on whether they will ban his accounts.

Players have expressed significant disappointment, arguing that Musk's actions undermine fair play and the effectiveness of real money trading (RMT) enforcement. The silence from Blizzard and Grinding Gear Games fuels this frustration, leading to accusations of preferential treatment for a high-profile individual.

Musk's previous boasts about his gaming skills, including a claim of being among the top 20 Diablo 4 players globally, have been called into question. His performance in a Path of Exile 2 livestream raised concerns about his actual gaming proficiency. These doubts, coupled with his busy schedule leading multiple companies, led to speculation regarding account boosting.

A direct message conversation with YouTuber NikoWrex confirmed Musk's use of account boosting, justifying it as necessary to compete with Asian players. He clarified that while his streamed gameplay was genuine, his high-level character achievements were not solely his own. Musk's former partner, Grimes, offered a defense, claiming to have witnessed his gaming accomplishments.

Further allegations emerged when Musk's Path of Exile 2 character showed activity while he was attending the Trump inauguration in Washington, adding fuel to the ongoing debate about his gaming practices and the developers' response. The situation highlights the ongoing tension between competitive gaming, high-profile players, and the enforcement of game rules.
