P DLC Overture Director Promises Difficulty Adjustments

by Emily Jun 14,2025

The developers at Neowiz have officially launched the DLC Overture for Lies of P, which debuted during this year's Summer Game Fest. This new expansion brings a wealth of fresh content, including new locations to explore, additional enemies and bosses to challenge, brand-new characters, and an assortment of weapons to master. However, one of the most talked-about additions has been the introduction of two new easier difficulty settings—an update that stirred quite a bit of debate within the community.

Now, it seems these difficulty options are set to become even more forgiving as the development team works on further “difficulty reduction” adjustments. As a game rooted in the notoriously challenging Soulslike genre, Lies of P can be particularly brutal—especially for newcomers drawn in by its haunting narrative and gothic aesthetic. Originally, director Jiwon Choi expressed a belief that Soulslike titles shouldn't include difficulty settings, and the base game shipped without them. But the team has since shifted perspective, with Choi stating: “We wanted to make sure a wider audience of players could play the game.”

PlayFor those choosing to tackle the Overture DLC on the “intended” difficulty—known as Legendary Stalker—the experience has proven significantly more demanding than expected. The increased challenge has sparked numerous reactions across forums, prompting the Lies of P subreddit to consolidate discussions into a single "megathread" to manage the influx of player opinions and frustrations.

This sentiment is echoed on Steam, where one reviewer noted: “I’m at level 300 and should not be getting 2-shot from basic enemies. It doesn’t help that the enemy grouping is designed for you to have to deal with multiple at once. This wouldn’t be a problem if even one of those enemies doesn’t take out half your health with one hit.”

Thankfully, fans won’t be left hanging for long. A newly released Lies of P Director's Letter confirms that balance changes—including potential difficulty reductions—are under review.

“We're reviewing all of [the player feedback] carefully and are already looking into when to implement some of your suggestions,” Choi shared, as reported by Eurogamer. “Among all the feedback, we are paying the closest attention to the combat experience.

We identified areas that did not turn out quite as we intended. Therefore, we are reviewing various adjustments, including difficulty reduction. However, combat is one of the most fundamental experiences in Lies of P, so any modifications or changes require meticulous work and thorough testing.”

Due to the core nature of these gameplay mechanics, no official patch date has been announced yet. That said, Lies of P was well received overall, earning our 8/10 rating. The Overture DLC also scored an impressive 8/10. As we previously stated: “Even if it’s clearly dancing on the same old strings, Lies of P: Overture is an excellent expansion that adds a whole lot more to a game that was already great.”
