While eagerly awaiting the release of DOOM: The Dark Ages, many are revisiting the classic DOOM games. Good news for fans: a recent update has significantly enhanced the DOOM and DOOM 2 experience.
This update boasts improved technical performance and more. Crucially, it now supports multiplayer modifications created using Vanilla DOOM, DeHackEd, MBF21, or BOOM. Cooperative gameplay has also been upgraded, allowing players to share items and introducing an observer mode for players awaiting revival. Network code optimization and enhanced mod loader capacity (handling over 100+ subscribed mods) round out the improvements.
Looking ahead to DOOM: The Dark Ages, accessibility is a key focus. The game will offer unprecedented customization options, exceeding those found in previous id Software titles. Executive producer Marty Stratton highlights the commitment to accessibility, stating that the team aimed to make the game as inclusive as possible.
Players will have extensive control over gameplay parameters, including enemy damage and difficulty, projectile speed and damage, overall game pace, demon aggression, and parry timing. Stratton also confirmed that prior experience with DOOM: The Dark Ages isn't required to understand its narrative, which connects seamlessly with DOOM: Eternal.
