"Dune: Awakening Sells 1 Million Copies, Becomes Funcom's Fastest-Selling Game"

by Grace Oct 25,2025

Dune: Awakening has surpassed 1 million copies sold within just two weeks of its release.

Developer Funcom shared the milestone today, revealing that the game has not only launched with a "very positive" user review rating on Steam, but has also reached over 1 million players—earning the title of Funcom’s "fastest-selling game ever."

"Dune: Awakening launched June 10 and 1,000,000 players have awakened!" the studio said. "It’s now Funcom’s fastest-selling game ever. To put it into perspective, it took Conan Exiles one year to reach this number. We’re truly humbled and thankful for this reception. It must also be noted that you certainly don’t live up to your title, because you have been busy since launch.

"Launch has been a Coriolis storm, and we’re still riding that mighty gale. We have seen so many amazing things from all of you — the bases, the close calls with Shai-Hulud, the epic vehicle jumps, the struggles, discoveries, victories, heroic deaths, and so much more... We salute you, Sleepers."

PlayWithin hours of launch, Funcom's survival RPG attracted over 142,000 concurrent players on Steam, peaking last weekend at 189,333. Our review awarded Dune: Awakening 8/10, stating: "Dune: Awakening is an excellent survival MMO that captures Frank Herbert’s sci-fi world incredibly well, mostly to its advantage and occasionally to its detriment. The survival climb from dehydrated peasant to powerful warlord of Arrakis is a joy almost every step of the way, and the story and worldbuilding filled this nerd with absolute joy.

"There’s still plenty for Awakening to work on, as its combat never really hits its stride, the endgame is a bit of a chaotic mess not worth the effort, and there are still technical bugs to fix—but even these rough patches felt like tiny desert mice next to the leviathan shai-huluds that are this survival game’s wonderful successes."

Funcom is already "currently formulating a plan" to improve PvP in the Deep Desert, an area previously criticized as "toxic" due to rampant griefing. The team has already removed the ability for players to crush others with their Ornithopter, and senior game director Viljar Sommerbakk confirmed they’re exploring further Orni adjustments—such as adding rockets that reduce maneuverability and top speed.
