"Evil Dead: Game Removed from Stores 3 Years Post-Launch, Servers Stay Online"

by Ava May 01,2025

Evil Dead: The Game, the much-loved asymmetric multiplayer game inspired by the iconic action horror franchise, is no longer available for purchase. Its publisher, Saber Interactive, has initiated the process of pulling it from digital storefronts across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. The game, which launched in 2022, received an 8/10 from IGN, where it was praised as a "compelling and exhilarating" experience, albeit "rough around the edges" akin to the horror/comedies it emulates.

Despite the release of a Game of the Year Edition in the following year, the title struggled to maintain player engagement. This led to the cancellation of the Nintendo Switch version and a halt in content development in September 2023. Now, three years after its initial launch, Evil Dead: The Game has been removed from sale permanently. However, existing players can continue to enjoy the game as Saber Interactive has committed to keeping the servers online.

In a statement on the game's Steam page, Saber Interactive confirmed:

We can confirm we've begun the process of removing the game from digital storefronts. Anyone who has purchased the game will still be able to play it as we plan to keep our servers online for everyone.

We want to extend a sincere thank you to our community, to those who have been part of the game from the very beginning, and those who have recently joined us. We appreciate all of your support.

The decision has been met with disappointment from the community, with many leaving negative reviews on the game's Steam page, expressing their dismay over its effective demise. The game currently holds a 'mixed' user review rating on Steam. Amidst the negative feedback, one positive review from a dedicated player with over 380 hours of playtime reflects a bittersweet sentiment: "The end is nigh. It was fun while it lasted, lads. I mean that."

Saber Interactive, known for their recent success with Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, continues to expand its portfolio with several licensed movie games in development. These include John Carpenter's Toxic Commando, Jurassic Park Survival, an untitled Avatar: The Last Airbender game, Turok: Origins, and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3.
