Ex-Rockstar Dev: No More GTA 6 Trailers, Hype Sufficient

As the anticipation for Grand Theft Auto 6 continues to build following the release of Trailer 1 in December 2023, fans are eagerly awaiting more updates. However, former Rockstar developer Obbe Vermeij, who worked on the series up until Grand Theft Auto 4, has expressed his view that no more trailers should be released before the game's launch.

Rockstar released GTA 6 Trailer 1 to record-breaking viewership, but since then, no further assets have been shared. The prolonged wait has sparked numerous conspiracy theories among fans about the release of GTA 6 Trailer 2. These theories range from analyzing details like the holes in Lucia’s cell door net, bullet holes in the car featured in Trailer 1, and even vehicle registration plates. A particularly notable theory, the "moon watch," correctly predicted the announcement date for Trailer 1, although it was later debunked as a hint for Trailer 2's release.

However, Vermeij tweeted that if it were up to him, he would not release any more trailers, stating, "There is more than enough hype around VI and the element of surprise is going to make the release only bigger as an event." He further suggested that merely announcing the release date without a trailer would be a "boss move."

Despite Vermeij's stance, the naming of the first trailer as "GTA 6 Trailer 1" implies that more trailers are planned. Yet, plans can shift, and Rockstar might prioritize the game's completion over releasing another trailer that would be meticulously analyzed by fans.

Vermeij also shared insights into Rockstar's decision-making process, recalling the delay of GTA 4 in 2007 and suggesting a similar "decision day" for GTA 6 might occur around Take-Two's August earnings report.

Mike York, a former Rockstar animator, suggested on his YouTube channel that Rockstar is intentionally fueling conspiracy theories by remaining silent about the game and the release of Trailer 2. He believes this strategy creates allure and mystery, encouraging fans to engage and discuss the game without Rockstar needing to release new content.

Zelnick's comments suggest that if GTA 6 Trailer 2 is released, it might not be until closer to the game's fall 2025 release date, assuming no delays occur.
