New Fallout Entry Explored by Series Director

Fallout: New Vegas director Josh Sawyer and several other Fallout developers have expressed keen interest in contributing to a new Fallout game. However, this enthusiasm hinges on a crucial condition: creative freedom.

Several Fallout Devs Express Interest in a New Game, But With a Condition

The developers' willingness to return to the Fallout universe depends on the opportunity to explore fresh, innovative ideas.

Sawyer, in a YouTube Q&A, stated his willingness to work on a new title, but only if given sufficient creative leeway. He emphasized the importance of project boundaries and the freedom to explore uncharted creative territory. He noted that restrictive constraints would diminish the project's appeal.

This sentiment is echoed by other developers. Last year, Fallout co-creators Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky expressed interest in a Fallout: New Vegas remaster, but similarly stressed the necessity of creative novelty. Cain highlighted that the allure of any RPG project stems from the opportunity to introduce something new and unique. He explicitly stated that a new Fallout game would only be enticing if it presented genuinely innovative elements.

Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart also voiced his desire to develop another Fallout game, given the chance. However, as of January last year, he confirmed that no such project was currently underway, citing the studio's busy schedule with Avowed, Grounded, and Outer Worlds 2. While he expressed optimism about future opportunities, he emphasized that discussions on new projects would likely begin towards the end of 2023.

In essence, while the talent is eager, the prospect of a new Fallout game relies heavily on the developers' ability to forge a new path, rather than simply revisiting familiar territory.
