Fortnite Players Frustrated by Major Interface Update

Fortnite's Revamped Quest UI Faces Backlash

Epic Games' recent Fortnite update, including a significant quest UI redesign, has sparked considerable player discontent. The new UI organizes quests into collapsible blocks and submenus, a change many find cumbersome and time-consuming, particularly during gameplay where quick access to quest information is crucial. This contrasts with the generally positive reception of other recent additions, such as the expanded pickaxe options derived from Fortnite Festival instruments.

Following the Winterfest event – featuring collaborations with notable figures like Shaq, Snoop Dogg, and Mariah Carey – and the launch of Chapter 6 Season 1 (praised for its new map and movement system enhancements, along with new game modes like Ballistic, Fortnite OG, and LEGO Fortnite: Brick Life), this UI alteration stands out as a point of contention.

The January 14th update introduced numerous changes, but the quest UI overhaul is a primary source of frustration. While some initially appreciate the cleaner aesthetic, the layered submenus significantly impede efficient quest navigation. This is particularly problematic mid-match, where the added time spent navigating the menus can lead to player elimination, as reported by players attempting the new Godzilla quests.

Although the new system offers improved organization by consolidating quests from different game modes (previously requiring mode selection), the negative impact on in-game efficiency outweighs this benefit for many players. The positive reception of the new pickaxe options, however, offers a counterpoint, highlighting the mixed feelings surrounding the update. Despite this UI setback, the overall sentiment towards Fortnite remains largely positive, with players eagerly anticipating future developments.
