PlayStation Productions at CES 2025: A Wave of Game Adaptations

PlayStation Productions made a splash at CES 2025, announcing several new video game adaptations. The January 7th presentation revealed a diverse slate of projects, spanning various genres and formats.

Among the highlights: Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, a new anime series partnering with Crunchyroll and Aniplex, slated for a 2027 Crunchyroll premiere. Directed by Takanobu Mizumo and with story composition by Gen Urobuchi, the series will feature a soundtrack by Sony Music.

Film adaptations of Horizon Zero Dawn (produced by Sony Pictures) and Helldivers 2 (handled by Columbia Pictures) are also in development, though details remain scarce. Adding to the cinematic lineup, an Until Dawn movie is set for release on April 25, 2025.

The presentation concluded with Neil Druckmann revealing a new trailer for The Last of Us season two, adapting elements from The Last of Us Part II and introducing characters like Abby and Dina.

This expansion into film and television builds upon PlayStation Productions’ previous successes. While earlier adaptations like Resident Evil and Silent Hill had mixed fan reception, Uncharted (2022) and Gran Turismo (2023) demonstrated strong box office performance. The Twisted Metal series, though less critically acclaimed than The Last of Us, completed its second season in late 2024, with a release date yet to be announced.

Beyond the CES announcements, PlayStation Productions continues work on Days Gone and Uncharted sequels, along with a God of War TV series.

The success of these recent adaptations suggests a promising future for PlayStation Productions, with the potential for many more beloved game franchises to receive the film or television treatment.
