Godzilla Fights Fires in LA

IDW Publishing and Toho's "Godzilla vs. America" series continues its monster-sized rampage with Godzilla vs. Los Angeles #1, hitting shelves April 30, 2025. This standalone special features four distinct stories depicting Godzilla's destructive foray into the City of Angels.

The creative team boasts a stellar lineup including Gabriel Hardman (Green Lantern: Earth One), J. Gonzo (Image Comics’ La Mano del Destino), Dave Baker (Mary Tyler Moorehawk), and Nicole Goux (Shadow of the Batgirl). The comic promises a thrilling spectacle of Godzilla battling giant lowrider mechs, stomping through iconic theme parks, and even interacting with the city's surprisingly extensive subway system. The overarching narrative highlights the resilience of Angelenos uniting against an overwhelming natural force.

Given the recent devastating wildfires in Los Angeles, IDW acknowledges the sensitive timing of the release. In a commendable gesture, IDW has pledged to donate all proceeds from Godzilla vs. Los Angeles #1 to the Book Industry Charitable Foundation (Binc), directly assisting bookstores and comic shops impacted by the fires. The publisher emphasizes that the comic, planned since July 2024, explores themes of resilience and the human condition in the face of catastrophe, not intending to exploit current events. Their letter to retailers and readers expresses their commitment to community support and emphasizes their dedication to aiding those affected by the wildfires.

Associate editor Nicolas Niño shared his enthusiasm for the project, highlighting the collaboration with talented Los Angeles-based artists and the opportunity to celebrate the city's spirit through a unique narrative. He underscores the charitable aspect, stating that donating proceeds to Binc is a fitting way to support the community after a challenging start to the year.
