Hades-esque Roguelike Emerges

Rogue Loops: A Hades-Inspired Roguelike with a Twist

The upcoming indie roguelike, Rogue Loops, is generating buzz for its striking resemblance to Hades, both in art style and core gameplay loop. However, Rogue Loops introduces a unique mechanic that sets it apart from the pack. While a release date hasn't been officially announced (currently slated for Q1 2025), a free Steam demo offers a compelling preview.

The roguelike genre's recent surge in popularity has seen countless iterations, ranging from action-packed titles like Returnal to classic dungeon crawlers reminiscent of Hades and its early access sequel. Rogue Loops clearly draws inspiration from the latter, presenting a repeatedly traversed dungeon with randomly generated loot and ability upgrades in a top-down perspective.

Though comparisons to Hades are plentiful (fueled by its Steam trailer and demo), Rogue Loops distinguishes itself through a key feature: ability upgrades are paired with distinct downsides. This mechanic shares similarities with Hades' Chaos Gates, offering powerful buffs alongside detrimental effects. However, in Rogue Loops, these "curses" are more significant and varied, potentially impacting the entire playthrough.

The narrative centers around a family trapped in a deadly time loop. Players navigate five distinct dungeon floors, battling unique enemies and bosses. Classic roguelike progression is maintained, with each run unlocking procedural upgrades enabling diverse build customization through buffs and debuffs.

While a precise release date remains elusive (a Q1 2025 launch is anticipated), the Steam page confirms an early 2025 release. In the meantime, the free demo offers access to the first floor, allowing players to experience the unique blend of familiar and innovative roguelike mechanics. Other excellent roguelikes, such as Dead Cells and Hades 2, provide ample entertainment until Rogue Loops' official launch.
