Harrison Ford Returns to Big Screen with Marvel in 'Fun' Role

by Alexis Feb 18,2025

Harrison Ford remains unfazed by the critical and commercial underperformance of "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny," quipping that "s**t happens." He revealed his decision to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe was simply because it appeared to be "a good time."

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal Magazine, the Star Wars icon acknowledged his own initiative in pursuing another Indiana Jones installment, stating he "felt there was another story to tell." However, he expressed indifference towards the film's negative critical reception and estimated $100 million loss.

Ford explained his motivation, saying, "When [Indy] had suffered the consequences of the life that he had to live, I wanted one more chance to pick him up, dust him off, and put him back out there, a bit diminished, to see what happened." He concluded, "I’m still happy I made that movie."

This latest cinematic venture hasn't deterred him from embracing another iconic franchise. Ford has joined the MCU, taking on the role of Thaddeus Ross in the upcoming "Captain America: Brave New World," succeeding the late William Hurt. This iteration of Ross will feature a more prominent role as the Red Hulk.

Ford clarified that his MCU involvement predated his awareness of this transformation. He hadn't even seen a script for "Brave New World" before signing on, driven solely by the prospect of enjoyment.

"Why not?" Ford stated. "I'd seen enough Marvel films to know that actors I admired were having a good time. I didn’t really know I’d turn into the Red Hulk. It’s like life; you only get so far with the instructions before the final page goes missing."

"Captain America: Brave New World," slated for release on February 14th, is poised to be one of the shorter MCU films to date. It marks Anthony Mackie's debut as Captain America, replacing Chris Evans' Steve Rogers. The film is also expected to incorporate lesser-known characters from Marvel's extensive lore, including a significant storyline stemming from "The Incredible Hulk" with the introduction of The Leader.
