Following player speculation, Warhorse Studios' PR head, Tobias Stolz-Zwilling, definitively stated during a recent Twitch stream that KCD2 will be completely free of DRM. He addressed the confusion caused by prior, inaccurate reports, emphasizing that the game will not utilize Denuvo or any other DRM system.

Stolz-Zwilling directly refuted the claims, urging players to cease inquiries about DRM: "KCD2 will not have Denuvo, or any DRM at all. We never confirmed otherwise. There were some misunderstandings, some misinformation, but ultimately, there will be no Denuvo." He appealed to fans to stop repeatedly asking about DRM on their social media posts. He stated that unless Warhorse makes an official announcement, any circulating information about KCD2's DRM status is untrue.

The absence of DRM is welcome news for many gamers who have voiced concerns about its potential impact on game performance and playability. Denuvo, in particular, has faced criticism for its perceived negative effects, despite its role as anti-piracy software.

Denuvo's product manager, Andreas Ullmann, has acknowledged the negative perception surrounding the technology, attributing it to misinformation and confirmation bias. He also criticized the often-toxic nature of the backlash against its use.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 arrives in February 2025 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Set in medieval Bohemia, the game follows Henry, a blacksmith's apprentice whose village is devastated by tragedy. Players who contributed at least $200 to KCD2's Kickstarter campaign will receive a free copy of the game.
