Lies of P Director is exploring new horizons, inspired by Elden Ring: Nightreign's network test, and is now open to crafting a multiplayer game. Dive into the details below to discover how long the Overture DLC will take to complete and what exciting features await fans.
Following his experience with Elden Ring: Nightreign’s network test, Lies of P Director Choi Ji-Won feels revitalized and is keen on exploring new ideas for future projects. At the 2025 Game Developers Conference (GDC), Choi shared his insights with Eurogamer on the evolution of the Souls genre. A long-time fan of FromSoftware games, his admiration is reflected in the design of Lies of P.
Choi was particularly impressed by Elden Ring: Nightreign, stating, "I've tried [Nightreign] and it was very refreshing and new. It clearly demonstrated their commitment to pushing boundaries, showcasing their imagination and vision. This inspired me to ensure that the Overture experience would be as exceptional as possible."
He also expressed openness to new ventures, including the possibility of developing multiplayer games. Choi remarked, "In terms of our future endeavors, we are definitely open to any sort of consideration in the future."
Despite his admiration for FromSoftware's work, Choi emphasized that his inspiration isn't limited to a single game. In an interview with Games Radar+ at the 2025 GDC, he explained, "I'm a fan of many different types of games. I draw inspiration from a wide variety of experiences, which I then integrate into the unique Lies of P experience. It's a blend of diverse influences from the games I love, transformed into something special for the fans of Lies of P."
Choi disclosed that the Overture DLC is expected to take experienced players around 15-20 hours to complete, packed with numerous bosses and additional content that the team originally hoped to include at launch. He explained, "Overture is intricately connected to the base game, making its development feel like completing the Lies of P experience, which was quite challenging."
Set as a prequel, Overture takes players back to Krat during its haunting final days, following a legendary Stalker. This expansion incorporates new ideas, player feedback, and concepts that were initially left out due to production limitations. Choi likened Overture to a Director’s Cut, suggesting it feels like the final chapter of the game.
He reflected on the base game's release, saying, "When we released the base game, we had to prioritize quality, so we couldn't include everything at once. The support from our community inspired us to deliver all that we wanted in this expansion."
In a conversation with IGN at the 2025 GDC, Choi clarified that the Overture DLC does not tie directly into the final cutscene of the base game. Without spoiling too much, the ending of Lies of P provided a glimpse into potential future directions for the series.
Choi had previously announced in a Director’s Letter video in November 2023 that a sequel to Lies of P is in development, hinting that the final cutscene could be linked to it. However, details about Lies of P 2 remain under wraps.
He assured fans, "When we share news or media about future projects, you'll know we are ready to present it. Our focus remains on quality amidst all the pressure we've discussed. That's our promise to you—when we share those contents and news, we'll be fully prepared."
Choi encouraged players to revisit the base game for hints about what the DLC might contain. He also mentioned enjoying fan theories online, noting that some were remarkably close to the mark.
Lies of P: Overture is slated for release in Summer 2025, without a specific date announced yet. The expansion will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Stay tuned for more updates by checking out our related article below!
