PS5 Disc Drive Back in Stock (But Maybe Not For Long)

The PS5 disc drive is currently available at select US retailers, including PlayStation Direct and Amazon, as of mid-January 2025. However, given past trends, this limited stock is unlikely to last.

The scarcity stems partly from the launch of the PS5 Pro, a mid-generation upgrade that doesn't offer a disc drive option. This, coupled with the earlier release of the disc-less PS5 Digital Edition, has created significant demand for the separately sold disc drive attachment, particularly in the US, where supply has been severely constrained for months.

While some retailers have managed to restock in early 2025, availability remains patchy. As of January 15th, Amazon and PlayStation Direct are selling the drive for its MSRP of $79.99. A third-party seller on Walmart is also offering it, but at a significantly inflated price of $122 (with limited stock).

With major retailers like Walmart, GameStop, and Best Buy still reporting stock shortages, the issue is far from resolved. The duration of the shortage remains uncertain.
