Tantalus Media, the studio behind acclaimed Nintendo remasters like The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD and Skyward Sword HD, has been unveiled as the developer of the upcoming Luigi's Mansion 2 HD for Nintendo Switch. The original Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, released on the Nintendo 3DS in 2013, saw Luigi tackling ghostly mansions to recover the fragments of the Dark Moon and capture King Boo.

Nintendo announced the Switch remake last September during a Nintendo Direct, confirming its June 27th release date this past March. Following a new trailer and the reveal of the game's file size, the developer remained a secret until recently.

Gaming news outlet VGC reported that Tantalus Media is credited in Luigi's Mansion 2 HD, taking over development from the original's creators, Next Level Games. Tantalus Media's Nintendo portfolio also includes the Switch port of Sonic Mania and work on the Age of Empires Definitive Editions.

Zelda Remaster Studio Heads Luigi's Mansion 2 HD Development

Initial reviews for Luigi's Mansion 2 HD are positive, praising it as another successful Nintendo remaster, comparable to Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. However, the game has unfortunately experienced pre-order issues mirroring those of Paper Mario, with Walmart canceling some orders.

The late reveal of Tantalus Media follows a pattern from Nintendo, similar to the late announcement of Super Mario RPG's developer, ArtePiazza. The developer of Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Fury remains undisclosed, suggesting this secrecy may continue for future Nintendo titles.
