Marvel Rivals' Nexus Mods controversy deepens after over 500 mods were submitted in a single month. The removal of mods replacing Captain America's head with images of Joe Biden and Donald Trump sparked outrage among users.
Nexus Mods owner, TheDarkOne, clarified the simultaneous removal of both mods on Reddit, aiming to prevent accusations of partisanship. TheDarkOne stated, "We removed the Biden mod concurrently with the Trump mod to avoid any perception of bias. Yet, YouTube commentators remain strangely silent on this aspect."
However, the situation escalated. Following the removals, TheDarkOne reported receiving numerous threats. "We're facing death threats, being labeled pedophiles, and enduring a barrage of insults simply because someone chose to escalate this issue," TheDarkOne added.
This isn't an isolated incident. Nexus Mods faced similar backlash in 2022 after removing a Spider-Man Remastered mod that replaced rainbow flags with American flags. The platform's stance on inclusivity and removal of discriminatory content was clearly stated at that time.
TheDarkOne concluded, "We won't engage with those who find this objectionable."
