Marvel Titles Dominate Best of 2024 Comic Book Rankings

by Patrick Feb 19,2025

2024: A Year of Familiar Comfort and Unexpected Excellence in Comics

In 2024, comic readers found comfort in familiar narratives. Surprisingly, many of these familiar stories excelled, pushing creative boundaries. Navigating the sheer volume of weekly comics from major publishers and the diverse range of graphic novels is a daunting task. This list highlights some of the standout titles we loved in 2024, focusing primarily on Marvel and DC, with a few exceptions. Only series with at least 10 issues are included, excluding newer titles. The ranking considers the entire run of each series, not just 2024 releases. Anthologies are excluded due to their varied creators.

Batman: Zdarsky's Run

Technically impressive but ultimately a tedious and unremarkable comic, except for a standout neuro-arc with the Joker.

Nightwing by Tom Taylor

A strong start, but ultimately bogged down by filler issues in its later run. While containing excellent moments, it fell short of its potential.

Blade + Blade: Red Band

A successful adaptation of the Daywalker into a thrilling, action-packed comic book.

Vengeance of the Moon Knight + Moon Knight: Fist of Khonshu

A mixed bag, hampered by rushed plot points and underdeveloped character arcs. The potential remains, however.

Outsiders

A Planetary-inspired series seamlessly integrated into the DC Universe, though its meta-commentary becomes predictable.

Poison Ivy

A surprisingly long-running series with a consistent, if occasionally uneven, psychedelic charm.

Batman and Robin by Joshua Williamson

A compelling story about growing up, father-son relationships, and self-discovery, though not quite reaching the heights of Williamson's previous Robin series.

Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver

A charming and visually appealing comic that prioritizes heartwarming simplicity over experimentation.

The Flash Series by Simon Spurrier

A complex and challenging read, rewarding those willing to engage with its intricate narrative.

The Immortal Thor by Al Ewing

A potentially rewarding but often tedious read, held together by Ewing's overarching narrative and stunning artwork.

Venom + Venom War

A chaotic and captivating series that leaves a lasting impression.

John Constantine, Hellblazer: Dead in America

A brilliant, albeit overstuffed, series featuring a masterful portrayal of Constantine.

Ultimate X-Men by Peach Momoko

A unique blend of manga, psychological horror, and X-Men lore, brought to life by Momoko's exceptional art.
