Marvel Unveils "The High Republic" Series for Star Wars Fans

by Scarlett Feb 24,2025

Marvel Comics' flagship Star Wars series is set for a May 2025 relaunch. The new series, following the Battle of Jakku and the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War, will depict Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa's efforts to establish the New Republic and restore order to a galaxy in turmoil.

Alex Segura, author of the Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku miniseries, pens this latest installment. Veteran Star Wars illustrator Phil Noto (Star Wars: Poe Dameron) brings the story to life, with Noto and Leinil Yu contributing cover art for the debut issue.

Segura and Noto's Star Wars unfolds approximately two years post-Return of the Jedi, after the final major conflict between the Empire and Rebel Alliance at Jakku. This optimistic new era sees the New Republic striving for galactic dominance. However, Luke and his companions face fresh challenges from opportunistic pirates, thieves, and other villains exploiting the power vacuum.

"Having concluded the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku, we can now propel ourselves into a fresh, uncharted era, introducing new galactic threats, adversaries, and mysteries for our beloved heroes to confront," Segura explained to StarWars.com. "These narratives will be brimming with action and the character-driven moments Star Wars enthusiasts anticipate, presenting unique twists on the familiar galaxy and landscape. We've ensured accessibility for new readers, making each issue an engaging entry point."

Noto added, "Alex is a phenomenal writer, crafting compelling storylines and new characters for this series, and I'm thrilled to bring them to life! Illustrating the classic characters in the post-Return of the Jedi era is exciting, as there are no existing film or TV portrayals to constrain me. I get to forge new appearances while drawing inspiration from the actors of the 80s to maintain the authenticity of this timeline."

Star Wars #1 launches May 7, 2025, coinciding with Star Wars Day celebrations.
