Hashino, when discussing the studio's future plans, expressed interest in developing a game set during Japan's Sengoku period. He envisions this historical setting as ideal for a new Japanese role-playing game (JRPG), potentially drawing inspiration from the Basara series.
Regarding Metaphor: ReFantazio's future as a franchise, Hashino confirmed there are no current plans for a sequel. His focus remains on completing the current project. He revealed that the game was initially conceived as the third major JRPG series following Persona and Shin Megami Tensei, aiming to become a flagship title for Atlus.
While a direct sequel (Metaphor: ReFantazio 2) is unlikely, Hashino and the team are already working on their next project. However, there's been discussion about the possibility of an anime adaptation. Metaphor: ReFantazio has already achieved considerable success, marking Atlus' most successful platform launch to date.
The game's peak concurrent player count exceeded 85,961, surpassing Persona 5 Royal (35,474 players) and Persona 3 Reload (45,002 players). Metaphor: ReFantazio is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
