Square Enix recently celebrated the NieR 15th Anniversary with a special livestream, unveiling a series of exciting announcements and updates. Dive into the details of what's planned for the franchise and get the latest on the monthly developer blog for Re[in]carnation.
Square Enix marked NieR’s 15th Anniversary with a flurry of announcements, showcasing upcoming events and projects. During the livestream on April 19, they introduced the online Special Novel titled [U]ndecided Option. This novel will see three updates, with the first already available and the subsequent releases scheduled for April 25 and May 2. The novel's intriguing premise is described as, "Such a 'servant' meets a mysterious boy with a mysterious air and is guided."
To complement this announcement, Square Enix launched a dedicated 15th Anniversary website, which serves as the main hub for the online special novel and other related projects and events.
Square Enix is set to host an exhibition at Sunshine City in Ikebukuro, Japan, showcasing new artwork featuring the protagonists from Replicant, Automata, and Re[in]carnation. Details on tickets and further information will be released soon.
Music lovers can look forward to additional performances at the NieR: Orchestra Concert 12024 in Osaka on July 25 and 26, and in Tokyo on August 2 and 3. Tickets are available via lottery, and more information can be found on the concert’s official website.
Fans can also anticipate a range of new merchandise, including an album featuring newly recorded studio jazz arrangements from NieR: Dinner Show – Somethin’ or Other 12024, set for release in December 2024. Other items include the NieR Weapon Story book, which delves into over 650 stories behind the weapons from Replicant, Automata, and Re[in]carnation, and scale figures of the series' protagonists.
Starting April 28, the NieR series’ first mobile game, NieR Re[in]carnation, will launch a developer blog series, offering monthly updates throughout the year. These updates will provide insights into the creation process behind Re[in]carnation.
Originally released in January 2021, the game was unfortunately shut down in April 2024 due to monetization issues. The announcement of a developer blog for a closed game has sparked curiosity among fans, with many speculating about potential sequels or remakes. However, no official announcements have been made yet.
The livestream concluded with a captivating 20+ minute live performance featuring soundtracks from across the NieR franchise. Square Enix promises more exciting events and merchandise announcements for NieR fans in the near future.
