Nintendo to disable Switch 2 rumble with prolonged use

by Hunter Oct 27,2025

Nintendo Switch 2 owners have reported their controllers' vibration function automatically deactivating when the system detects extended use of the rumble feature.

Since the console's launch earlier this month, players have encountered warnings about excessive vibration usage. The notification "Rumble has been turned off due to prolonged use" appears before temporarily disabling the Joy-Cons' vibration capability.

"At first I'd get this message after roughly 90 minutes of handheld play," shared a Reddit user. "Now it pops up within the first 20 minutes. Is anyone else experiencing this?"

Players report encountering vibration issues across multiple titles, including vibration-intensive sequences in Cyberpunk 2077 (particularly during minigun fire) and cinematic moments in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker running via Nintendo GameCube emulation.

A dedicated Reddit thread tracking the issue cites numerous affected games. "Happened during Sonic Generations' final boss fight," one fan lamented. Another noted: "Experiencing it regularly while playing Fast Fusion."

While Nintendo hasn't officially commented, community speculation suggests this may be a battery conservation feature. Vibration drains controller power significantly, and though disabling the function seems extreme, it could prevent rapid battery depletion.

"I'm getting these alerts constantly, sometimes after mere minutes of play," shared another concerned player in a separate discussion. "Makes me suspect I might have faulty Joy-Cons."

Affected users currently have two temporary solutions: either completely disable vibration in system settings to prevent warnings, or wait briefly for the function to reactivate automatically.
