Nintendo has issued a crucial warning to its U.S. fans about the impending release of the Switch 2, following similar alerts in Japan about struggling to meet demand. The company posted an update on its website, addressing those who registered interest in purchasing a Switch 2 from the My Nintendo Store. It cautioned that delivery by the June 5 release date cannot be guaranteed, and that invitation emails might arrive after the console's launch. However, Nintendo assured that the shipping date would be confirmed upon purchase.
"Thank you to those of you who have already registered your interest in purchasing from My Nintendo Store," the statement from Nintendo read. "We're thrilled by the enthusiasm for Nintendo Switch 2! Due to the very high demand, we will be working diligently to fulfill orders as product becomes available, but delivery by June 5 is not guaranteed. Your invitation email may arrive after the Nintendo Switch 2 launch. We'll confirm your shipping date upon purchase."
To increase the chances of securing a Switch 2 at launch, Nintendo suggested pre-ordering through third-party retailers. This advice comes in light of the fact that Switch 2 pre-orders have already sold out at various outlets, including GameStop. "If you wish to increase your opportunity of obtaining a Nintendo Switch 2 system at launch, please visit our participating retail partners above," the statement directed, linking to GameStop, where the console is currently sold out. For those willing to wait, no further action is required after registering interest with My Nintendo Store.

The challenges fans faced during the pre-order period on April 24, coupled with Nintendo's warning, indicate that obtaining a Switch 2 around its launch date will be highly competitive. Earlier, Nintendo issued a similar warning to its customers in Japan, stating that a significant number would miss out on direct pre-orders from the company. Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa mentioned in a statement on X / Twitter that 2.2 million people in Japan alone applied for a pre-order from the My Nintendo Store, far exceeding expectations and available stock for the June 5 release.
According to an FAQ on Nintendo's website, the first batch of invitations for the My Nintendo Store in the U.S. will be sent out starting May 8, 2025. Additional batches will follow periodically until the store opens to everyone. Initial invitations will be sent on a first-come, first-served basis to eligible registrants meeting certain priority criteria. Those invited will have 72 hours from the time the email is sent to complete their purchase.
Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order invitation priority requirements:
Last week, Nintendo confirmed that Switch 2 pre-orders in the U.S. would start on April 24, 2025, maintaining the original price of $449.99 and the launch date of June 5. The Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle will remain at $499.99, with the pricing for both the physical and digital versions of Mario Kart World ($79.99) and Donkey Kong Bananza ($69.99) unchanged at launch. However, Nintendo has increased the prices of Switch 2 accessories due to ongoing tariff issues.
Originally, pre-orders were set to begin on April 9, but Nintendo delayed them to assess the potential impact of tariffs and market conditions.
