"Nintendo Switch 2: Joy-Con Mouse Controls for Home Menu Navigation"

by Lucas May 13,2025

Nintendo has exciting news for fans of the upcoming Switch 2: players will be able to use the innovative Joy-Con mouse controls directly on the Home screen. Since the reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2, speculation about the new Joy-Con's capabilities has been rampant. Last month, we received official confirmation that the Joy-Con can operate in "mouse mode," enabling users to slide the controllers across surfaces and utilize the analog sticks to simulate left-click and right-click actions, much like a traditional mouse. Furthermore, players have the flexibility to use two Joy-Con in mouse mode simultaneously, either one in each hand or with one in standard mode and the other in mouse mode.

Now, thanks to a demonstration on the Nintendo Today app and shared on X/Twitter, we've learned that these Joy-Con 2 mouse controls extend to navigating the Home menu on the Switch 2.

Nintendo has detailed the process: "If you place the Joy-Con 2 controller on a surface with the attachment side facing down, a cursor will appear on screen. To display the cursor, set the Joy-Con 2 on a table or flat surface and move it as shown." Additionally, Nintendo explained, "While using mouse controls, you can tilt the control stick to scroll through menus, and use mouse controls on the Home menu and in compatible software." To revert to using the thumbstick, simply reposition the Joy-Con 2 horizontally.

While the extent of game compatibility remains undisclosed, Nintendo has demonstrated the technology working with the Switch 2 editions of Mario Party Jamboree, Metroid Prime 4, and the wheelchair basketball game Drag x Drive.
